Hi Friends!
Today, I received a sad message from Jennifer and I just had to share it with you!!
She wrote:
"I was wondering, if I have a ring that the pearl is lost out of, can you replace it with a new one? It would be a smaller-sized pearl."
Oh no! Isn’t it the worst when your beautiful pearl ring loses its pearl? And you know what’s equally frustrating? When the pearl in your ring gets damaged and ends up looking, well, not so lovely.
So, can The Pearl Girls fix it? Yes, we can!!
Here’s What You Need to Know
If your pearl ring has a post setting, we can replace the pearl without any trouble! However, if your ring has a prong setting, it’s trickier for us. Why? Prong settings typically require heat to secure the pearl, and we avoid using heat on pearls to ensure they remain unharmed.
What Is a Post Setting?
A post setting is exactly what it sounds like—it’s similar to the post of an earring. The post stands upright, and we drill a small hole halfway into the pearl to fit it snugly onto the post. We then secure it with epoxy for a perfect hold. Voilà!
With our extensive collection of pearl types and sizes, we can repair these settings with ease.

Repairing Prong Settings: What You Need to Know
Prong settings can be particularly challenging for The Pearl Girls to repair. These settings often require heating the metal to adjust or secure the prong, which puts the pearl at risk of damage. For this reason, we rarely take on repairs for prong-set pearl jewelry.
That said, there are exceptions! If we can manipulate the prong without using heat, we may be able to help. So, while it’s not impossible, it’s something we approach with caution.
As a general rule, if your pearl is in a prong setting, it’s best to seek a jeweler who uses a cold soldering machine. This method avoids heat altogether and ensures your pearl remains safe during the repair process.
Here are some examples of prong settings that The Pearl Girls typically cannot fix.
