"Say Something Sweet to Your Sweetheart," was a tune my grandfather, Pop, and his cousin Jack used to sing together. Jack at the piano, Pop singing away and me, well, I would just dance around the living room marveling at these two men I admired so much. If you have ever heard the song, think of a very upbeat version sung by two men who loved life. I loved it so much! It is a great, old tune (maybe from the 1940s?) with the oh-so-important line... "Say something sweet to your sweetheart and you'll be sweethearts forever more.."
I think of this song often upon such occasions as Valentine's Day. We all know Valentine's Day is way over the top these days but the premise of the holiday really speaks to me. It is a day to say something sweet to your sweetheart. Don't have a sweetheart? Well, I am certain there is someone is your life who loves you dearly and/or who you love dearly and here is a day to honor that. Awesome! And if you are just plain pessimistic about Valentine's Day? Well, there is always chocolates and candy and who could resist the good loving of our sweet tooth?
This year we Pearl Girls wanted to create something gorgeous to say something sweet to our sweethearts and I think we pulled it off... a Cultured Pearl Heart! Our dear pearl-knotter Judi knew she could pull it off and she did. The result is an amazingly beautiful heart... that comes in a gorgeous red box. It is a whisper of love to your sweetheart or to whomever you want to honor and cherish this Valentine's Day.
SAY SOMETHING SWEET TO YOUR SWEETHEART
(Sid Tepper / Roy C. Bennett)
SAY SOMETHING SWEET TO YOUR SWEETHEART
TELL HER HOW MUCH YOU CARE
SAY SOMETHING SENTIMENTAL, IT WON’T COST A THING
YOU’LL FIND WHAT HAPPINESS A GENTLE WORD CAN BRING
YOU CAN’T HIDE THOSE LOVE WORDS INSIDE YOU
AND STILL KEEP THE ONE YOU ADORE
SO, SAY SOMETHING SWEET TO YOUR SWEETHEART
AND YOU’LL BE SWEETHEARTS FOREVER MORE
SAY SOMETHING SWEET TO YOUR SWEETHEART
TELL HER HOW MUCH YOU CARE
SAY SOMETHING SENTIMENTAL, IT WON’T COST A THING
YOU’LL FIND WHAT HAPPINESS A GENTLE WORD CAN BRING
