Today is Madeleine Albright's 76th birthday. She is a proud American, and originally an immigrant from Czechoslovakia. She was the first woman to become the United States Secretary of State. She was nominated by President Bill Clinton on December 5, 1996, and was unanimously confirmed by aU.S. Senate vote. She was sworn in on January 23, 1997 and remained until the end of Clinton's tenure in 2001.
